Item 5

Position: SUPPORT

Sample e-comment (500 characters max):

I’m a resident of District ____ and part of (Organization) and Invest in San Diego Families. I urge you to support Supervisor Lawson-Remer’s proposal to create an Immigrant Legal Defense Program.

Access to legal counsel is fundamental to fairness and justice in our country. San Diego should not allow immigrants to go unrepresented in immigration proceedings. We must guarantee a fair process for all that will allow immigrant families and communities to stay together.

Thank you.

Good morning, members of the Board of Supervisors.

My name is _________________________ and I am part of (Organization) and Invest in San Diego Families. I am a resident of District ___.

I urge you to support Supervisor Lawson-Remer’s proposal to create an Immigrant Legal Defense Program.

Access to legal counsel is fundamental to fairness and justice in our country. People are forced to navigate a very complicated immigration system without legal representation while the government is always represented by a qualified attorney. This is unfair.
Immigrants and people seeking asylum need access to legal counsel to make informed decisions about their cases. Only then, can they have a fair day in court.

(Why do you believe this is important? Share a personal story or speak to your values.)

We must guarantee a fair process that allows immigrant families and communities to stay together. I urge you to vote “YES” to create an Immigrant Legal Defense Program in our county.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Item 23 - Office of Labor Standards Enforcement

Item 23

Position: SUPPORT

Sample e-comment (500 characters max):

I’m a resident of District __ & part of (Organization) & ISDF. San Diego should be a place where we all thrive, not where corporations are allowed to exploit workers. All workers should have safe workplaces, be paid for all their work, & be protected from retaliation. Yet many workers have had all these and other rights violated with little to recourse or justice. I urge you to stand with workers & support Supervisor Fletcher’s proposal to create an Office of Labor Standards Enforcement.

Good afternoon. My name is __________. I am a resident of District ___ and part of (Organization) & Invest in San Diego Families.

I urge you to stand with workers and support Supervisor Fletcher’s proposal to establish an Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE). The pandemic has reminded us of how important workplace standards and workers’ rights are. It also revealed how little we have prioritized our workforce, especially essential workers.

(You can share a personal experience/story)

We need more education about labor standards, among workers and employers. Workers need a place they can turn to if their rights are violated. And employers who willfully abuse workers’ rights need to know they will be held accountable.

We need the Board of Supervisors to take action to address this need, and this office is an important first step.

Item 26 - Eviction Ban

Submit an e-comment

Item 26

Position: SUPPORT

Sample e-comment (500 characters max):

Loopholes in national and state renter protections have allowed landlords to continue evicting tenants during this crisis. A ban on all evictions would support public health & protect everyone in the region. No one should be facing homelessness in the middle of a pandemic. Please support banning all evictions during the pandemic and prevent unnecessary displacement of families during this crisis.

Live Comment Talking Points:

My name is ______ and I am a tenant/supporter/landlord and I live in District ___. I’m part of (Organization) & Invest in San Diego Families and I am urging you to SUPPORT Supervisor Vargas’ proposal to pass a ban on ALL evictions for the duration of the pandemic. An eviction moratorium that only accounts for the inability to pay rent does not go far enough. No one should be facing homelessness in the middle of a pandemic.

(Add personal story/perspective)

That’s why I’m calling to urge you, the San Diego County Supervisors, to stand with us, protect us, and pass the Eviction Ban today!
